The Scottish Catholic International Aid Fund [SCIAF] is Scotland’s leading international aid agency. It is the official aid agency of the Catholic Church in Scotland.
It was started in 1965 by the Catholic Bishops of Scotland with the help of three key people: John McKee, Canon Rooney and Bishop Foylan. Since then over £75 million has been raised for communities in need around the world.
SCIAF works in the following three areas:
· Responding to emergencies
· Supporting communities
· Campaigning for a more just world
“From small beginnings in 1965 in a small school classroom in Rutherglen… with funds of just £8,000…SCIAF has grown into Scotland's leading international aid charity.”
Rt Hon Gordon Brown MP, Prime Minister, SCIAF 40th anniversary lecture, Edinburgh, October 2005.
