SCIAF's work in Brazil
Brazil is the fifth largest country in the world with a population of 180 million people. It is very rich with natural resources but at the same time there are about 40 million people living in desperate poverty. These people have to live on less than 50 pence per day. Many of these people are poor because they have no land to farm – much of the land is owned by wealthy landowners. SCIAF has been working closely with partners in Brazil to educate families about their rights and to help them get land to build houses and grow crops for their families.
