Fairtrade Schools Conference

Pupils from 40 schools across Scotland gathered together at Glasgow University for the recent Fairtrade Schools Conference. Guest speakers provided an overview of the work of the Fairtrade movement. They outlined the benefits in providing a fairer standard of living for millions of people living in developing countries. Young visitors from Ghana attended and were able to describe how Fairtrade had changed their lives by improving their education. Group sessions allowed pupils and staff to see what other schools have done for Fairtrade and to provide new ideas to bring back to their schools to generate Fairtrade activities. The conference finished up with an open question and answer session and a performance of a specially composed Fairtrade song.
