SCIAF's work in Indonesia
On Boxing Day 2004, a tsunami wave hit many Asian countries killing an estimated 300,000 people. SCIAF launched an emergency appeal which raised a staggering £2.3 million. Immediately after the Asian Tsunami struck, SCIAF helped to provide survivors with temporary shelters, fresh water and medicines. We also used the money donated to provide long-term support. This included building houses, water supplies, new roads and drainage. SCIAF also provided training so people are better prepared for disasters that may happen in the future. These pictures show the work that SCIAF supported in the Aceh Province of Indonesia. SCIAF also helped many communities in India that had been affected by the tsunami.
