SCIAF's work in Nicaragua

In 1998, Hurricane Mitch hit Central America killing almost 11,000 people. It was one of the most powerful hurricanes on record. The country of Nicaragua was devastated by the storm and SCIAF responded by sending emergency aid. Many years on, the country is still struggling to recover. Between 2003-2005, SCIAF donated £63,000 to our local partner organisation, Juan XXIII, to help build new homes for those still living in temporary shelters and to improve the health care and nutrition of local people. This made a big impact to the lives of 15,600 people. SCIAF continues to support some of the poorest communities in Nicaragua through the work of our inspiring local partner organisations.
