Fairtrade Visitors

Fairtrade visitors

Recently we had two very special visitors - Alex from Bolivia and Juan from Brazil who both produced Fairtrade goods.

On Thursday during the day they came to our Spanish class. It was really good to be able to ask them questions in Spanish and we were all really surprised at how much Spanish we understood. We told them a lot about the Highlands and our culture. Two of our classmates did Highland dancing and played the bagpipes for them at break time. At lunchtime they went over to Broadford, on the Isle of Syke to a fair trade coffee morning. Broadford is now Skye’s first fairtrade village. A journalist from the West Highland Free Press spoke to them and wrote an article for the paper!

They amused us by telling us all what they thought we looked like and what we were going to be when we’re older. They told us some interesting facts as well. They showed us a proper Brazil nut, which looked nothing like what you would expect. It’s massive like a shell holding up to about 15 Brazil nuts at one time!

We were also told about Bolivia and how it’s one of the two countries in the whole of South America that doesn’t have a coast.

On Friday they came back to school for a bit then we took them to see Dornie Castle and learn a bit more about our Highland history.

We were sad to see them leave but we hope they will return next year again!
