March 2008
In October 2007 a group of students from Plockton High travelled to the Scottish Parliament in Edinburgh to take part in the launch of the Scottish Fairtrade Nation campaign.
Scotland along with Wales are the only two countries in the world which have making the country fair trade as an official national objective.
We really enjoyed the event. It was the first time we had been into the Scottish Parliament. Some of the things they said were quite hard to understand because of the terms that they used but we when we all talked about it together afterwards and on the bus home and it’s not really so difficult, it’s just getting used to the language they use. It would be really good to be part of the decision making of fair trade and other things that go on in Scotland but sometimes it’s just a bit scary speaking out in front of loads of adults.
Overall, it was a weekend that made us truly proud to be living in Scotland at this time, and feel part of the changes which are being made.
