St Cadoc's Primary - making connections

SCIAF recently launched an exciting new initiative called Project Connect, which gives schools in Scotland a great focus for fundraising and global citizenship. St Cadoc’s Primary in Newton Means have already signed up. They got their whole school involved in deciding which of the three country options - Burundi, Nicaragua and India - they were going to choose.

Pupils in Primary 6 and 7 formed groups to campaign for each country and presented their cases at a special assembly for why ‘their’ country should be chosen by the rest of the school.

Primary 6 pupils, Cara MacBride and Jessica McKeever commented:

“Our experience has been amazing, built our confidence and has helped us learn about different countries. In our campaigning group we got straight to work by making a PowerPoint which we had to present in front of the whole school. It was nerve-racking with lots of faces looking at us. After that we started campaigning and publicising our country by giving out flyers, putting up posters and telling our ideas to the school. Whilst waiting for the results we were extremely nervous.”

The whole school got to cast their vote for the country that they wanted to become their focus. The country they chose was………. Burundi.
