St Francis Primary, Falkirk

SCIAF recently launched an exciting new initiative called Project Connect, which gives schools in Scotland a great focus for fundraising and global citizenship.

St Francis Xavier’s Primary in Falkirk have already signed up for Project Connect with Primary 7s deciding to choose Burundi as the country they wanted to focus on.

The Primary 7 classes have been learning about the differences between ‘developed’ and ‘developing’ countries, the role of organisations like the United Nation, and how conflict affects the life for ordinary people living in Burundi and in other countries around the world.

They also learned about the role that people have played trying to promote peace and human rights in difference countries – people like Oscar Romero, Ghandi and Nelson Mandela.

The P7s were also very interested to find out about the work that SCIAF is doing in Burundi to build a more peaceful society through projects like Agakura. Pupils have designed leaflets and posters explaining SCIAF’s work and have been teaching the rest of the pupils in the school what they have been learning about Burundi.
