Primary 5/6 pupils in St Mungo’s Primary, Alloa, are making hunger a thing of the past in two different ways.
The enterprising pupils have set up a shop in the school called ‘Snackattack’ after learning about the cocoa industry as part of a Fairtrade topic. The class were able to get a business loan of £50 through a "Double Your Money" competition for school enterprise. The children used the internet to order Fairtrade chocolate, cereal bars, biscuits and fruit juice to satisfy all the rumbly tummies in the school. The whole class have learned how to keep accounts, re-order stock and spread the Fairtrade message by writing letters to parents and speaking at school assemblies.
P5/6 are delighted that after only a few days of business, they have repaid their start-up loan. They now have £30 profit to spend on SCIAF real gifts of pigs and chickens which help to feed and provide an income for enterprising families in the developing world.
Absolutely brilliant! Well done Snackattackers for a great idea and for putting your business skills to such great use!
