It’s not everyday that teachers encourage pupils to GO BANANAS in class but that’s exactly what happened in St Teresa’s Primary in Possilpark on 6th March 2009!
It was all for a great cause though as the teachers and pupils were taking part in the world’s biggest banana eating event in support of Fairtrade Fortnight. A massive 470,001 people from schools and churches across the UK took part in the event to raise awareness about Fairtrade and help promote Fairtrade bananas.
The local Co-op store generously donated the bananas to the school so that the pupils could take part. Everyone had a great time and made the most of the day by having a fun Fairtrade afternoon too.
Thanks to the event, and the efforts of organiser Debbie Conroy, St Teresa’s Primary School is hoping to achieve Fairtrade status soon.
