Whitelees Primary

March 2008

Whitelees Primary (Cumbernauld) got Fair Trade Fortnight 2008 off to a marvellous musical start with the launch of their very own Fair Trade song – called ‘Fair Trade Is The Answer’.

The song, which was written by Primary 7 pupils, was launched at the school in front of a number of invited politicians, including Linda Fabiani MSP - the Minster with responsibility for the Scottish Government’s International Development Policy.

With lines like, "let's pay a price that's fair and so lend a hand", the pupil’s song is designed to raise awareness of Fair Trade and of our roles as Global Citizens. The money raised from sales of the CD, priced at a very reasonable £3, is being donated to SCIAF.

Whitelees Primary Head Teacher, Ann Kay commented, “This project has really empowered the pupils. They have shown that they know global issues such as poverty are everyone's responsibility and that together we can doing something about it, ‘We need to work as one, Come on now everyone’ as the song says”.

If you are interested in purchasing a copy of the song, Whitelees Primary can be contacted on Tel: 01236 734509
