Rosemary and her many dependents live in the Turkana District of northern Kenya. It’s a harsh desert environment and providing for her family has never been an easy task for Rosemary. Droughts have always been a predictable reality but climate change has resulted in increasingly erratic weather and droughts and flash floods have destroyed many of her crops in the last few years. With the help of SCIAF supporters in Scotland, one of our partner organisations has embarked on an ambitious land reclamation programme which has benefited Rosemary and 50 other families in her village. Water and silt from
the local river has been collected to create fertile family gardens for Rosemary and her family to grow a plentiful supply of food – come rain or shine.
Thanks to your support Rosemary and her family are now reaping the benefits from their small oasis in the desert.
