Burma visit

Cardinal Keith O’ Brien and SCIAF’s Director, Paul Chitnis, have visited Myanmar/Burma to speak to survivors of Cyclone Nargis.

The powerful cyclone struck the country in May 2008 killing more than 138,000 people. The Cardinal made the long trip to see for himself how SCIAF

used the money given by the Scottish public.

SCIAF sent £110,000 to provide emergency supplies of clean water, temporary shelters and medicine. This helped more than 65,000 people who had survived the disaster.

Cardinal O’Brien said: “I spoke with a 14-year-old boy who had lost both his parents. Whole communities were wiped out overnight. Many people are still homeless and living in extreme poverty. SCIAF, thanks to its supporters in Scotland, is changing the lives of thousands of ordinary people in Myanmar."
