SCIAF is providing £50,000 in emergency aid to help many thousands of innocent people displaced by the recent fighting in eastern part of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

SCIAF’s emergency aid will help provide blankets, soap and cooking equipment to 100,000 families who have lost their homes and possessions.

Donations will be directed to Caritas Internationalis, the global network of Catholic aid agencies, which has local organisations working in some of the worst affected areas.

SCIAF is also helping the long-term efforts for peace by calling on the UK government to send more UN peace-keeping troops to the region.

It is believed that up to 250,000 people have been displaced by fighting between the rebel forces of Laurent Nkunda and the Congolese government.

SCIAF is asking for urgent donations to help those caught up in the terrible violence. Please give generously. 11th November 2008
