SCIAF has direct access to people on the ground via a partner organisation in Yangon [Rangoon]. We also expect to get supplies to the Irrawaddy region which has been hit hard by the cyclone.
We have sent £60,000 already to provide tents, shelters, food, water and medicines. These supplies will help to keep many people alive. This support is already helping some 60,000 people.
As well as the emergency supplies, SCIAF will also seek to provide long-term aid. This will involve preventing diseases such as cholera and also providing help to people to rebuild their homes. This work may take many years - SCIAF is still helping communities affected by the Asian Tsunami which struck in 2004.
